Marquetry is the art of cutting and combining different pieces of wood veneer to form pictures. All the pieces lie next to each other forming a single sheet of veneer. This sheet is then glued to a substrate or a piece of furniture and sanded lightly. Lacquer or a penetrating oil is applied to bring out the colors of the wood and to protect the piece.
Jane Burke is a marquetry artist selling her work at art shows in the Pacific North West of the US. She also teaches marquetry in Idaho, Washington and North Carolina at woodworking stores and at the John C. Campbell Folk School.
